Thanks to my tablet its now just a little more simple to blog at lunch or on breaks. I just want to post a quick entry about the CM teams recent accomplishment of getting android to boot on the HP touchpad. It is the first major milestone in getting android on the touchpad I am very ecstatic about this but also I have to admit that with every step closer to droid on touchpad we loose another competitor in the mobile OS lineup which is never good.
So heres a concept I think alot of us can agree is simply a great idea. A single source of all of our stored data and some of our most used application, a source that can be accessed from anywhere on virtually any device connected to the internet. Thats basically what the cloud is, a place for all of your data like movies, music, pictures and documents to live , a place that is easily accessible from anywhere. My only problem with the cloud is , I want to control my data I wanted to store the data locally on my home computer where i know its being backed up and used most often. So I started looking for a solution and came up with one perfect (for me ) solution; Tonido.
Tonido is a simple to install and configure private cloud server application, they also sell the Tonido Plug if you don’t want to run your own computer 24/7. Tonido allows you to access all of your data stored on your PC from any web enabled device , of course we all know this means Laptops and desktops at work on campus. However where this private cloud really shines is on devices that have low memory capacity like smartphones and tablets. My recent purchase of a HP Touchpad is a prime example. I was able to obtain enough Touchpads for the entire helpdesk we opened them all at the same however I was the only 1 out of 9 people that was able to immediately acsess my personal content and applications, we are talking about helpdesk and network admins here so before you jump on me for talked down to the common enduser please keep that in mind. Over a wireless G connection my Music was streaming uncompressed with no issues and my documents were accessible as were my movies (though streaming movies is not polished yet I was able to download them directly to the tab).
I invested about 1 hour of my time in the setup and deployment of tonido and I am very happy with the results in fact I can’t Imagine my tech life without it. However while yes it has been a great experience the personal cloud has a long ways to go before the average everyday user will consider it.
Tablets have been widely accepted as the 3rd device since the release of the iPad. I have owned 2 tablets in the past year, 1 android (the Dell streak 7) and as of yesterday I know own a HP touchpad running its native web OS. Both have major pros as well as cons like anything else however this post is about the touchpad and my experience with it so far.
The performance of the touchpad is not has good as my Dell streak however the stats of the touchpad is higher. One can only assume that the reason for this is the OS. The OS seems to be lack luster and a bit like my old car clunky and leaves a lot to be desired. It does shine in some areas however like connecting to printers out the box without any effort at all also it does a great job of being a hub for most of your digital accounts (gmail , Photobucket and iChat) are some of my accounts that now work very well with other accounts I don’t use on a normal basis but probably should like facebook, yahoo mail and chat.
I can use those applications for what seems to be an entire day with a single charge. I charged last night an I have been using my tablet on and off the entire day since 7 am it is now 6pm and I am at 50% which makes me very happy. This should prove to be a great device on roundtrip. And for the low cost of 99$ aim glad I picked up 2 of them.
Seeming thanks to beAts audio the speakers and sound are great in fact the sounds better than most of my laptops. Which for HP should not be surprising seeing as how most of their equipment has great sound. I hope to have a quick post in the near future about my favorite touchpad webOS apps as I have not seen very good coverage on that topic. Also as a side note this entire post was made from what is so far my favorite 3rd party app by wordpress.
That’s all for now thank you for reading.
In my life there have been very few choices that I have made that felt right because I knew they were right. 1 of those choices was you. Ever since we decided to give this relationship a second chance I have been the happiest I have ever been in my life. I love you so very much and I can’t picture my life without you. I guess what I am trying to say is,
Roses are red, Violets are blue , marry me and all my base are belong to you?
Rooting my Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant) and why you should to.

First off I would like to say that I am not new to rooting the android operating system. My previous phone and current backup phone is a T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream), I along with roughly 7 other friends decided at the same time to root our G1′s at the same time so I was able to experience a variety of successful installs as well as failed / tragic installs that led to a temporary bricking of the phone. So before you continue please understand that you can brick your phone and it may not be fixable at that point.
I am not going to write another article on how to root your phone I am simple going to link to what I used to root my galaxy S, the guides in this forum are extremely simple to follow . You can have your phone rooted in less than 5 minutes if you follow the directions. Here is the link to the XDA forum thread where you will find the guide and the link to the software you will need.
There are various reason why one would root their phone, perhaps there is an application that you would like to use but you need root access to you use it which in my experience tends to be the number one reason. Another major reason is to update the version of android OS on your phone, maybe your tired of being on 2.1 and your carrier or manufacture is seemingly taking their sweet time to release an update. In which case there are plenty of ROMs on the market to update your rooted phone to the latest and greatest released version of android. My number 1 choice of ROM and seemingly the most popular is Cyanogen Mod , The Unlockr has put together a nice list of other roms out there based on what phone you have. However my main reason for rooting my phone is the following, I don’t like company’s that sell me a product and tell me how I can and cannot use it which is why I don’t own a iPhone. That and plane curiosity and a urge to know more about my product, in order to get the most out of our products we need to understand them on a deeper level than what the manufactures may have intended us to; only then will you be able to utilize your device or software to its fullest extent and possible contribute to the community that surrounds that product.
I hope you enjoyed my first post on the site please leave a comment and like it using the Facebook like button it would greatly help me out. Thank you again for reading.
This is fantastic, mobile updates from my android phone and email accounts.
Websites almost fully functional
So I decided to take my website down for awhile so I could think about its direction and what content management software I wanted it running on. IWeb was a great product for some one that didn’t want to put much time or thought into coding the website. But its just not flexible, very difficult to backup and unless your ok with just updating your website from just one computer its not the product for you.
As for the direction of the site. My previous attempt at a site that allowed me to express my thoughts about topics and share the projects and events in my life that I felt were relevant enough to make it on the site was at best a failure, however I am going to capitalize on the failure and improve on everything I have experience mainly I had to many pages that were not being updated enough. Which once again this new platform (wordpress) should help me resolve that issue as well.
Heres to a new beginning and the hopes that I accomplish what I as well as those around me accomplish there goals in the years to come. Cheers.
